In the most common balance, the weighing bars of the following denominations are used.
50 g 100 g 200 g 500 g 1 kg 2 kg 5 kg 10 kg
Conversion of Weight
1 kilogram = 1000 grams
To convert kilograms into grams, multiply the number of kilograms by 1000.
To convert grams into kilograms, divide the number of grams by 1000.
Let’s Attempt
Example 1: Convert 8 kg and 15 kg into g. Example 2: Convert 8000 g into kg.
Solution: 8 kg = (8 × 1000) g = 8000 g Solution: 8000 g = (8000 ÷ 1000) kg
15 kg = (15 × 1000) g = 15000 g = 8 kg
Example 3: Convert 6 kg 70 g into g.
Solution: 6 kg 70 g = (6 × 1000) g + 70 g Challenge
= 6000 g + 70 g = 6070 g I’m a tool quite neat, I’ll show you
measure.
Example 4: Convert 4789 g into kg and g. Two sides I have, balanced I stay,
To compare weights, I’m used every day.
Solution: 4789 g = 4000 g + 789 g Put objects on me, I’ll give you the keys.
= (4000 ÷ 1000) kg + 789 g Balance is my game. What am I?
= 4 kg + 789 g = 4 kg 789 g
