Word Problems
Let us learn how to solve word problems based on weights using kg and g.
Let’s Attempt
Example 1: A grocer had 50 kg of rice. He sold 12 kg 875 g to one customer. Find the
weight of rice left with him. kg g
Solution: Total quantity of rice = 50 kg 4 9 9 9 10
Quantity sold to one customer = 12 kg 875 g 5 0 0 0 0
Quantity of rice left with him = 50 kg – 12 kg 875 g – 1 2 8 7 5
Thus, quantity of rice left with grocer is 37 kg 125 g 3 7 1 2 5
Example 2: Amit weighs 48 kg 385 g. His elder brother Rohit is heavier than him by
5 kg 473 g. How much does Rohit weigh?
Solution: Amit’s weight = 48 kg 385 g kg g
Rohit is heavier by 5 kg 473 g. 1 1
Rohit’s weight = 48 kg 385 g + 5 kg 473 g 4 8 3 8 5
= 53 kg 858 g + 5 5 4 7 3
