ACTIVITY 3.5

OBJECTIVE

To verify Rolle’s Theorem.

MATERIAL REQUIRED
Y A piece of cardboard or drawing board

Y Wires/threads of different lengths
Y White paper

Y Sketch pens
Y Some board pins

PRE-REQUISITE KNOWLEDGE
1. Knowledge of differentiability and continuity of a function.
2. Knowledge of Rolle’s theorem.

PROCEDURE

1. Take a cardboard or drawing board of a convenient size and paste a white paper on it.
2. Take two wires or threads of convenient size and fix them on the white paper pasted on the cardboard to
represent x-axis and y-axis with help of pins as shown in Fig. (a).
