 Receiver: The receiver is the person who intends to receive, decode and interpret the message sent by the
                 sender.

 Decoding: Decoding can be defi ned as the receiver interpreting the message and coming to an understanding
about what the source is communicating.
 Feedback: The last element of the communication cycle is the feedback. It is the receiver’s reaction or
response to the sender’s message. It is the last and crucial part of communication cycle that determines
whether the communication has been understood by the receiver in the same light as intended by the
                 sender.

Fill the boxes by showing the element of communication cycle in the given diagram.

Identify the Factors Affecting Our Perspectives in Communication

In general, a perspective defi nes a person’s views, ideas or way of thinking. For example, if we have a fi xed
idea that our parents are strict then, even if they are being friendly, we would think that they are scolding us.
Our perspective affects our communication. A communication perspective focuses on the way in which our
messages are shared. At times, we are not able to communicate clearly because of the barriers created by our
rigid perspective, thus, stopping us from sharing and understanding the messages in their right sense.

Factors Affecting our Perspective in Communication
The various factors that affect our perspective in communication are:

            Conceptual Clarity

It is one of the most important factors in communication. The idea or information must be clearly defi ned in the
sender’s mind before it is transmitted to the receiver.

            Visual Perception
It is the brain’s ability to make sense of what we see through our eyes.
It helps us to see and interpret our environment through colours,
patterns and structures. Visual perception affects communication.

For example, two persons perceive different meanings by looking at
            the same picture.
