There is less chance of misinterpreting the information given in written communication.
Disadvantages of Written Communication
The disadvantages of written communication are as follows:
It is very diffi cult and expensive to keep all the records in written communication.
The preparation of written documents is time consuming. It costs the valuable time of both the writer and
the reader.
Written communication is quite impossible to be read by an illiterate person.
It takes much time to communicate to all the parties concerned and to get a response from the receiver.
Processing and printing lengthy materials are quite expensive as paper, pen, ink, typewriter, computer and
a lot of manpower are needed.
Secrecy is not always possible to maintain through written communication.
Written technical documents are often too long and complex to understand.
Once prepared in large quantities, printed documents are diffi cult to change.
Verbal Communication
Sharing of information through spoken words is called verbal
communication. In verbal communication, a spoken language is used to
transmit information. Verbal communication includes the information
that people hear on radios, televisions, telephones, speeches,
interviews, face-to-face conversations, group discussions, counseling,
calls, singing, questioning and answering, etc. Verbal communication
is infl uenced by eye contact, gestures and facial expressions.
We use verbal communication when: Verbal Communication
there is time urgency.
we wish to convey emotions and feelings.

Advantages of Verbal Communication
The advantages of verbal communication are as follows:
It saves time.
It is a cheaper way of communication, hence saves money.
The sender gets immediate feedback as to whether his intended message is received in its intended form
or not.
While communicating verbally, we are more likely to convey the matter easily in understandable language.
It does not need any external material to convey the message.
It provides complete understanding of the communication delivered.
It is a more reliable method of communication due to direct interaction.
It helps maintain secrecy about a matter as there is no way to prove what was said, unless recorded.
Disadvantages of Verbal Communication
The disadvantages of verbal-communication are as follows:
It may lead to forgetting some messages by the listener if the conversation is lengthy.
The message may not be understood clearly due to language barrier.
