Culture

Different cultures perceive signs and symbols differently. It is necessary to understand the
cultural gaps and fi ll them before starting communication.
For example, showing a thumb may mean ‘well done’ in some cultures but for some people
            it may be insulting.

Dr Eric Berne’s Transactional Ananlysis theory describes
the effect of our belief system on our behaviour. This
theory outlines how we treat ourselves, how we relate
and communicate with others. Dr Berne has proposed
four life positions that each of us may take in approaching
                      any interaction.
The four positions are: ‘I’m OK: You’re OK’, ‘I’m OK: Dr. Eric Berne
You’re Not OK’, ‘I’m Not OK: You’re OK’ ‘I’m Not OK:
                      You’re Not OK’,

Demonstrate the Knowledge of Basic Writing Skills

Writing skills are important part of communication. Good writing skills allow you to communicate your message
with clarity and ease for larger audience to understand than through face-to face or telephone conversations.

            Writing Skills
In genral, Writing skill is the ability to convey your message to the reader in clear and concise manner. There are
three factors related to good writing skills.
 The fi rst factor is what is being communicated.
 The second factor is how the sender sends the message.
 The third factor is how the reader perceives the communication.
Basically in communication, the fi rst and second factors are created by the sender for the reader. Every written
work has a purpose of communicating something to the reader - always. Sometimes, the writer writes it for
himself but still there is a reader and the work is supposed to communicate something to the reader effectively.

            Five Good Writing Habits
Once you know what you are writing and for whom you are writing, you can start writing. There are fi ve
writing habits that everyone should inculcate in writing.

 Be Active: Instead of writing in the passive, we should write consistently in the active voice. In the passive
voice, the subject of the sentence is acted upon which makes it sound weak and impersonal. Whereas in
active voice, the subject of the sentence is the acting force and such sentences come across as strong, direct
                 and clear.
