                1.  A hungry lion — no prey — goes into a jackal’s cave — waits till evening —

                     the jackal comes — smells danger — calls out, “Dear Cave, good morning,”
                     no reply. The jackal again says, “Hello Cave, why don’t you return my greeting
                     today?” — the lion taken in — roars aloud in reply — the jackal runs away.

                2.  Twelve weavers — all foolish — start on a journey — cross a stream on the

                     way — count themselves in turn — each counts eleven — forgets to count
                     himself — all weep at the loss of the twelfth man — a farmer — asks them
                     the reason for their weeping — agrees to produce the lost man — counts

                     twelve. All happy — pay him what they have — go back home

                3.  A cook named Ram — worked — master — crane — Ram — hungry —
                     one leg of the crane — master — missing leg — shouted — Ram replied —

                     cranes — only one leg — master — plan — next morning — pond nearby
                     — Ram exclaimed with joy — one leg — master — second leg — master

                     — two legs! Ram said — clap — dinner table? — two legs
                4.  A king — lazy friend — king asked — work — Madhav replied — no job —

                     king — treasury — as much wealth — sunset — Madhav — wife — lunch
                     — nap — set out — on the way — hot — tree — asleep — two hours —
