19 19            Paragraph Writing











             A paragraph is a group of sentences. It deals with a single topic. It has a topic
             sentence, supporting sentences, and a concluding sentence. A paragraph must

             have a unity of thought.

             If you want to say some new information, you should write it in a new paragraph.




                                                     1. My House


          My house is situated in Sector 11 in Panchkula. The street that runs by my house is
          thirty feet wide. There are buildings and shops in front of the house. It is in the heart

          of the locality. The surroundings are good. It is on the third floor of a three-storeyed
          building. So we get sufficient, pure, and fresh air and light. We have lived in it for

          many years. We are emotionally attached to it.


                                              2. My Favourite Book


          Reading books is my habit. I am very fond of reading books. I like books of adventure.
          I have a number of books. But my favourite book is ‘Indian Tales’. It contains forty

          stories. They are about the heroic deeds of Indian princes and princesses. I have read
          all the stories twice. They are not fairy tales. They are true stories. This is why I like
          them and read them again and again. Books are my best companions.



                                                     3. Dussehra

          Dussehra is a great festival of the Hindus. It generally falls in september/October. It

          is celebrated with great pomp and circumstance in almost all parts of India. It marks
          the victory of good over evil. A fair is held on this day, and stalls are set up. In them,

          sweets, cold drinks, sugar cane juice and fruits are sold. People go to see the fair in
          large numbers. The effigies of Ravana, Meghnath and Kumbhkarna are set up in an
          open space. At sunset, the effigies are set on fire. People return home happily.
