Playing With Construction 129
Now, let us construct this (rectangle) by following the steps given below:
Step 1: First of all, we have to draw a side of
square AF and it may be of any length.
Now we sketch aperpendicular line
FE (i.e. AF ^ FE).
Now put the length for AF into F E
compass and keep the one tip of F
compass at point F and cut this
perpendicular line FE with the help
of this compass. Mark the point E
where compass cuts the line FE
which is shown in fig. aside: A A
Step 2: Now according to above arrangement AF = FE
Similarly, we put the tip of compass of E and cut
this extended line FE with the help of this compass
F at point D. This is also shown in figure below.
E D
A
Step 3: Now draw two perpendicular lines, one is at point D and perpendicular F D
to ED and other is at point A and perpendicular to AF. Put the point C
where these two perpendicular lines cuts each other and in this way, a
rectangle ‘ACDF’ has been constructed. A C
Construction of Square with a Hole
Before constructing this, set a rough diagram in your mind. By seeing that you can approach the process.
According to this diagram, we observed that ‘E’ is the centre of both circle as
well as rectangle. D C
Now, Let us construct this by following steps given below.
F
Step 1: First of all, we have to sketch a square ABCD by using only compass
and pencil. E
To do this, we sketch a horizontal line AB after that we construct two
perpendicular lines at both ends A and B. Now cut the line segment
equal of AB from both perpendicular lines passing through A and B. Centre
A B
In this way, we will construct a square, now draw AC and BD, there are the diagonals of square and
where these diagonals cut each other, that point of intersection called centre of square.
