Playing With Construction 131
Point Equidistant from two Given Points
According to this, we want to construct a point which is at the equal distance from two given points.
Now, Let’s construct this by following the steps given below:
Step 1: Here, we assume two points are given and they are located
at a particular distance. Now meet these two points and A 5 cm B
sketch a line segments.
Let it be assumed that AB = 5 cm.
Step 2: Now take a distance of 5 cm in compass and put Step 3: Now repeat the process which has been
one tip of compass at A and create or sketch an used in Step (2) but the tip of compass is
arc of 5 cm around A as it is shown in fig. below: placed at point B and sketch an arc of 5
cm around B as it is shown in fig. below:
A B A 5 cm B
5 cm
Step 4: Now we see in above fig that both are cut at one common point to each other that point is assume
to be ‘C’
Now meet the point A and B to C.
Here, by measurement we see that
AC = BC = 5 cm
Step 5: Suppose, if we draw a perpendicular from C to line AB and this C
perpendicular meet to AB at point K then line segment CK is the
perpendicular bisector of AB, it is shown in fig. below:
Here CK ⊥ AB and CK is also perpendicular bisector of AB

2. Construct a rectangle with sides of length 6 cm and 3 cm.
3. Construct a rectangle with sides of length 6.5 cm and 4.2 cm.
4. Construct a rectangle whose one of its side is 3.5 cm and its diagonal length is 4.5 cm.
5. Construct a rectangle where one of its side is 4 cm and the length of a diagonal is 6 cm.
6. Construct a rectangle in which one of the diagonals divides the opposite angles into 75° and 15°.
