Symmetry 135

Another way of creating a symmetrical design is by paper cutting. Take a paper
and fold it as many times as possible. Now cut any design on it and open the
paper. You will get a beautiful symmetrical design like this.

        Folding Test
You can find if a shape has a Line of Symmetry by folding it. When the folded part sits perfectly on top (all edges
matching), then the fold line is a Line of Symmetry.
Here we have folded a rectangle one way, and it didn’t work.

So this is not a Line of Symmetry

But when we try it this way, the folded part sits perfectly on top, all edges matching:

So this is a Line of Symmetry

              ILLUSTRATIONS

Example 1: Which of the following figures are symmetrical? In case, they are symmetrical, draw the line of
                       symmetry.

                                 (a) (b) (c) (d)

Solution: All the figures are symmetrical and the lines of symmetry are drawn as follows:

                              (a) (b) (c) (d)
