Conversion of Mixed Fraction into an Improper Fraction
To convert the mixed fraction into an improper fraction, we multiply the whole number by the
denominator and add the numerator. The denominator remains the same.

        Let’s understand through an example,

1 Numerator (Whole number ×Denominator)+ Numerator
               2 =
               4 Denominator Denominator

                                           ) 1
                                      (24 81 9

Conversion of an Improper Fraction into Mixed Fraction

We can express an improper fraction, say 5 as a mixed fraction Quotient Remainder n
                                                                                          d
                                                              3 Divisor
        by following steps.

Step 1: Divide the numerator by the denominator. 1 Quotient

Step 2: Write the remainder over the original denominator Divisor 3 5
and quotient as whole number. –3
                                                                                                  2 Remainder

                     Thus, 5 = 1 2
                            3 3

               Let’s Attempt

Example 1: Write all the like fractions from the following group of fractions.

                              ,
                        2 , 1 7 , 1 , 2 , 3
                        3 4 3 3 5 7
                        2 1 7
Solution: , and have the same denominator.
                        3 3 3
                                        7
So, 2 , 1 and are like fractions.
                            3 3 3

Example 2: Write three like fractions with:
