To fill a cell range with a series of numbers that follows a particular pattern:

1. Click a cell and type the first value of the series.

2. Click the next consecutive cell and type the second

value of the series. 2

3. Select both cells.

4. Drag the fill handle down to fill a vertical range of
cells or across to fill a horizontal range of cells. 4

As you drag through each cell, Excel displays the 5
value that it will add to the cell.

5. Release the mouse button when you reach the end

of the desired range of cells.

Excel fills the range of cells with a series that
continues the pattern of the initial two cell values.

The table given below shows the initial selections and the result of the AutoFill feature.
