IT in Education
Information Technology is extensively used in education for learning,
teaching and assessment. The software and hardware technology is
used for creation and transmission of information in various forms
such as still pictures, audio, video and animation.
v ICT in the classroom: Computers are effectively used as teaching-
aids in classrooms to explain the experiments which cannot be
carried out in a laboratory using CBT (Computer Based Teaching)
programs. The introduction of virtual classroom has made
education accessible for all the students. The student sitting in one corner of the world can now attend
lectures from any part of the world.
v Education—anywhere anytime: Nowadays with the increasing use of the Internet, students can undergo
online courses offered by the various universities while sitting at their homes. They can attend the online
lectures and can speak to their teachers to get response to their queries. The virtual classroom is the future
            of education.
v Teaching aids and media: With the help of IT, teachers can now create interesting audio and visual
presentations related to a topic or subject, keeping the learners engaged and giving them a greater
            understanding of the concepts.

v Learning Management System (LMS): A Learning Management System provides an instructor a medium
to create and deliver content, monitor student participation and assess student’s performance. A student
or teacher can register himself/herself on the offi cial website to access LMS and can get many services from
LMS. The students can benefi t as they can learn lessons anytime and anywhere. They can submit queries,
get replies, submit comments through forums and participate in the co-curricular activities via video calls.
Parents can now monitor the progress of their children.

IT in Media, Art and Entertainment

IT is now used in the fi eld of media also. We can play computer based
animated games, listen to music and watch movies on computers.
Nowadays, musicians use computer software to compose music.
Special effects for science fi ction movies, action movies and animated

computer. Kids entertain themselves by watching cartoon characters
on television. Cartoon movies are not all computer work. The initial drawing work is done by cartoon artists.
Painting and drawing applications help artists to create realistic images easily. Thereafter, various artifi cial
effects (which are not possible by hand) are added by various video effects tools.
