Workplace Quality Measures
The air quality standards play a vital role in enhancing employees’ productivity. Clean air is the fundamental
necessity for any workplace or the people working in the organisations. In addition to air, clean water is also a
big necessity as contaminated water can lead to health issues, underscoring the need for organisations to take
proactive measures in preventing both air and water pollution.
Air and Water Quality Monitoring process
The degree of air and water pollution can be easily
measured through various methods. These methods
may exist in different forms such as physical, chemical,
and biological. To conduct such analysis, samples can
be gathered from the vicinity of the organisation. These
samples can then be subject to physical, chemical,
and biological tests to analyse their composition and
characteristics on the basis of various parameters such
as temperature, mixture of different gases like oxygen,
nitrogen, and carbon dioxide in the air. The degree of
water pollution is measured or analysed through its pH
value.
The pH value can be determined through chemical analysis. Additionally, the impact of air and water on flora
and fauna is studied, with microbial indicators employed to assess the ecosystem’s health.
Guidelines for Clean Air and Clean Water
An organization should follow proper guidelines to keep the surrounding air and water clean. Some of the
important guidelines are:
v Implementing regular air and water quality monitoring programs: An organisation should implement
regular air and water quality monitoring programs such as installing air quality monitoring stations, using
portable air quality monitors, collection and analysis of samples of water, etc. These monitoring programs
help in ensuring the health and safety of employees, as well as the surrounding communities.
v Establishing efficient waste management and recycling practices: An organisation should use more solar
panels and make use of the renewable solar energy from the sun. In addition to this, companies should buy
only the essential things and reduce the consumption of natural resources.
v Promoting the use of eco-friendly products and materials: Organisations should enforce to plant more trees
because trees absorb carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas. Plastic cups or bags should be completely banned in
an organisation. In place of plastic, eco-friendly products and materials should be promoted.
v Encouraging sustainable transportation options for employees: Driving alone in a car is environmentally
and economically inefficient. The organisation should focus on clean and sustainable transportation. The
clean transportation means less dependency on fuel for vehicles. When employees choose alternative
transportation methods like carpooling, train, and other public transport which use hybrid or electric energy,
they become a part of the clean transportation sector.
v Conducting training sessions on pollution control and conservation: Organisations should conduct
training sessions at regular intervals on pollution control and conservation. These sessions can cover a range
of topics, including the environmental impact of industrial activities, the importance of reducing waste and
emissions, sustainable resource management, and the adoption of eco-friendly practices.
