Health, Safety, and Security at Workplace
Human safety mainly focus on the health, hygiene, and environment of all people working there. Everyone in a
workplace should take the responsibility to promote hygiene and safety.
Health
As defined by World Health Organisation (WHO), health is defined as a “state of complete physical, mental, and
social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity”.
Safety
Safety is a condition where one feel protected from harm or any outcomes.
A proper risk assessment should be conducted at the workplace to identify health and safety problems, and
initiate the necessary measures to eliminate it completely. Hazards can be of different types depending on the
industry and the environment in which the employees work. The different types of hazards include:
v Chemical v Biological v Mechanical v Physical
Security
Security refers to the protection of employees, assets, and sensitive information from potential threats and risks.
It plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety of individuals within an organization. Every organization should
establish a clear process for reporting security incidents or concerns so that they can be addressed promptly and
effectively. By prioritizing workplace security, organisations can create a safer environment for their employees
and protect their assets and information.
Policies and Procedure for Health, Safety and Security
Health, safety, and security policies and procedures encompass the essential health, safety, and security
components of an organisation, along with objectives that enable the company to keep employees and others
safe in the workplace.
The general health and safety measures at a workplace are:
v Identify what is unsafe or unhealthy.
v Design safe work procedures and supervise the workers.
v Awareness campaign may be organised for workers.
v Demonstrate various commitments related to the health and safety of workers by adopting safe work
practices.
