Division 79

        Some more examples:

           3 × 6 = 18 18 ÷ 6 = 3 18 ÷ 3 = 6
Thus for each multiplication fact, we have
           11 × 9 = 99 99 ÷ 9 = 11 99 ÷ 11 = 9 two division facts and for each division fact,
                                                              we have one multiplication fact.
           10 × 2 = 20 20 ÷ 2 = 10 20 ÷ 10 = 2

                                                      Exercise 6B

1 Write two division facts for each of the following.

               (a) 8 × 4 = 32 (b) 9 × 3 = 27 (c) 4 × 6 = 24

2 Write the multiplication facts for the following.

               (a) 63 ÷ 7 = 9 (b) 9 ÷ 9 = 1 (c) 72 ÷ 8 = 9

        Properties of Division

           1. When a number is divided by 1, the quotient is the number itself.

               For example, 7 ÷ 1 = 7 9 ÷ 1 = 9 100 ÷ 1 = 100

           2. When a number is divided by itself, the quotient is 1.

               For example, 8 ÷ 8 = 1 12 ÷ 12 = 1 93 ÷ 93 = 1

           3. Division by zero is not possible.

           4. When 0 is divided by any number, the quotient is 0.

               For example, 0 ÷ 4 = 0 0 ÷ 10 = 0 0 ÷ 94 = 0

           5. We cannot change the order of the dividend and divisor in division. For example,
               14 ÷ 2 cannot be writt en as 2 ÷ 14.
