Division is also done using the concept of subtraction.
Let us divide 12 by 2

12 – 2 = 10 To show division as repeated
10 – 2 = 8 subtraction, subtract until you
8 – 2 = 6 6 times get 0 fi nally.
6 – 2 = 4
4 – 2 = 2 As we subtracted 2 from 12, six times to get 0.
2 – 2 = 0 Hence, 12 ÷ 2 = 6.
Division on Number Line
We can divide on number line also. To divide 20 by 5 on a number line, start from 20.
Take jumps of 5 in backward direction, to reach 0. Count the jumps and get the answer.
