        The given numbers are: 3625, 5679, 3735

First we put numbers in place value chart and then compare them.

           Th H T O Th H T O Comparing the numbers, we get
            3 6 2 5 3 6 2 5 5679 is the greatest number and
            5 6 7 9 3 7 3 5 3625 is the smallest number.

            3 7 3 5 6 < 7 Numbers in ascending order are:
                   3 < 5 3 = 3 3625 < 3735 < 5679
                                                                          Numbers in descending order are:
        Thus, 5679 is the greatest. So, 3625 < 3735
                                                                          5679 > 3735 > 3625

                                                   Exercise 2.6

          1. Arrange the following numbers in ascending order.

                (b) 8136, 7268, 9786, 8388 ______________________________________________

                (c) 1287, 3458, 4218, 3125 ______________________________________________

          2. Arrange the following numbers in descending order.
                (a) 5126, 5317, 1534, 2846 ______________________________________________

                (b) 7314, 5708, 7318, 7346 ______________________________________________
                (c) 3289, 1310, 3322, 3317 ______________________________________________

Formation of the Greatest and the Smallest 4-digit Numbers

To form the greatest number, we arrange the given digits in descending order.

To form the smallest number, we arrange the given digits in ascending order.

              Let’s Attempt

        Example 1: Form the smallest 4-digit number using the digits 2, 1, 7, 5.
        Solution: Arranging the digits in ascending order, we get: 1 < 2 < 5 < 7

Thus, the smallest 4-digit number using the digits is 1257.

        Example 2: Form the smallest 4-digit number using the digits 3, 0, 1, 5.

        Solution: Arranging the digits in ascending order, we get: 0 < 1 < 3 < 5
The smallest 4-digit number will be 0135.

But it is not a 4-digit number.

Now, interchange the position of two left most digits.
Thus, the smallest 4-digit number using the digits is 1035.
