Example 2: Write the following numbers in standard form.
(a) 8000 + 700 + 50 + 6 (b) 3000 + 50 + 1
Solution: (a) Standard form of 8000 + 700 + 50 + 6 = 8756
(b) Standard form of 3000 + 50 + 1 = 3051

Comparison of Numbers
We compare numbers to know which number is greater and which is smaller.
To compare numbers with different numbers of digits
A number containing more digits is always greater.
To compare numbers with same numbers of digits
Step 1: Start comparing the first digit from the left in each number.
Step 2: The number having greater digit is greater.
Step 3: If both the digits are same, then move to the second digit from the left and
so on.
Let’s Attempt
Example 1: Compare the numbers 996 and 1039.
Solution: 996 is a 3-digit number while 1039 is a 4-digit number.
