Rounding off Numbers
We round off numbers to make calculations easier and faster.
Rounding off the numbers gives a resulting number that is less accurate but easier to use.
Now we will learn rounding off numbers to the nearest ten and nearest hundred.
To the Nearest Ten
� If the digit at ones place is less than 5, round off the number to the same tens.
� It the digit at ones place is equal to or greater than 5, round off the number to the
next tens.
Let’s Attempt
Example 1: Round off 14 to the nearest ten.
Solution:
10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20
14 is nearer to 10 than 20. Thus, it is rounded off to 10.
Example 2: Round off 37 to the nearest ten.
Solution:
30 31 32 33 34 35 36 37 38 39 40
37 is nearer to 40 than 30. Thus, it is rounded off to 40.
