To the Nearest Hundred
� If the digit at tens place is less than 5, round off the number to the same hundreds.
� If the digit at tens place is greater than or equal to 5, round off the number to the
next hundreds.
Let’s Attempt
Example 1: Round off 134 to the nearest hundred.
Solution: 134
100 110 120 130 140 150 160 170 180 190 200
134 is nearer to 100 than 200. Thus, it is rounded off to 100.
Example 2: Round off 267 to the nearest hundred.
Solution: 267
200 210 220 230 240 250 260 270 280 290 300
267 is nearer to 300 than 200. Thus, it is rounded off to 300.

Roman Numbers
We have used the numerals 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 to write any number. This is known
as Hindu-Arabic number system.
There is another system of numbers in which ‘letters’ of English alphabet are used to
write numbers. This system is called Roman System of numeration.
