        Example 2:   Write the number shown on the given abacus.

        Solution:          There are 3 beads in the ones column, 5 beads
                         in the tens column, 2 beads in the hundreds
                         column and 6 beads in the thousands column.

        Place Value and Face Value
        The place value of each digit in a number depends upon its place (position) in the number.

        The face value of each digit in a number is the number itself.

        Example 1:  Find the place value and face value of each digit in number 6574.

                                                    Ones place                 4 × 1 = 4                4
