Face Value and Place Value
Face Value
The face value of a digit is always the digit itself.
For example, Face value of 3 in 85,32,812 is 3. Face value of 6 in 96,78,583 is 6.
Place Value
Place value of a digit depend on the place it occupies in the place value chart. The product of
the digit and the value of its place is called the place value of the digit.
Place value = Face value × Position value of that digit
Observe the place values of every digit in 78,23,41,521.

Fact-o-meter
The place value of a digit in the number has no effect on its Face value is 7
face value.
i.e. The face value of each digit in the number 5, 55, 555, is 2789

Example 1: Find the place value of 4, 6 and 9 in 24,69,51,371.
Solution: The place values of the digits 4, 6 and 9 in 24,69,51,371 are:
Place value of 4 in the given number = 4 crores = 4,00,00,000
Place value of 6 in the given number = 6 ten lakhs = 60,00,000
Place value of 9 in the given number = 9 lakhs = 9,00,000
