               Let’s Attempt

Example: Arrange the following numbers in an ascending and descending order:
                       6,75,283; 5,28,386; 5,28,368; 2,83,189 and 7,83,859.

Solution: All the numbers have 6-digits, so we start comparison from the digits at extreme
                       left place.
Start comparison from the left-most digits. It shows that 2 < 5 (for both 5,28,368
                       and 5,28,386) 5 < 6 < 7. L TTh Th H T O

                         Therefore, 2,83,189 < 5,28,386 and 6 7 5 2 8 3
                       5,28,368 < 6,75,283 < 7,83,859.
                         It is clear that now we have only two numbers, i.e., 5 2 8 3 8 6
                       5,28,386 and 5,28,368 left for comparison. Cross 5 2 8 3 6 8
                       out equal digits at corresponding places from both 2 8 3 1 8 9
                       numbers. We find that, at tens place 6 < 8. 7 8 3 8 5 9
                       Therefore; 5,28,368 < 5,28,386.
                                                                                           2 < 5
                         So, the required ascending order is 5 < 6 < 7 6 < 8

                       2,83,189 < 5,28,368 < 5,28,386 < 6,75,283 < 7,83,859.
                       Now, the descending order is

                       7,83,859 > 6,75,283 > 5,28,386 > 5,28,368 > 2,83,189.
