Thus, the predecessor of 6,56,23,261 is 6,56,23,260
Let us look of the tables.
Predecessor Numbers Successor Fact-o-meter
74,999 75,000 75001 Number + 1 = Successor
27,635 27,636 27,637 Number – 1 = Predecessor
1,32,36,648 1,32,36,649 1,32,36,650
90,998 90,999 91,000

(c) 28,999
(d) 41,656
(e) 70,006
Comparing Numbers
Numbers can be compared by the place value of the digits in the numbers.
We have learned to compare smaller numbers. We shall follow the same rules for comparing
the bigger numbers.
Rule 1: The number with more digits is greater than the number with less digits.
For example, 473656 > 97656
Rule 2: If two numbers have the same number of digits, we compare them by comparing the
digits from the extreme left and continue till two different digits are found. These
digits are compared to decide the greater and smaller numbers.
Now, let us learn through examples.
Let’s Attempt
Example 1: Compare 42,326 and 42,418.
Solution: Both the numbers have 5-digits. So, we start comparing the digits from the left-
most end by lines up the numbers by their place values.
