P. 102
100 Maths
Let us learn through examples.
Let’s Attempt
Example 1: Convert 51 L into mL. Example 2: Convert 18 L 250 mL into mL.
Solution: 51 L = 51 × 1000 mL Solution: 18 L 250 mL
[1 L = 1000 mL] = (18 × 1000) mL + 250 mL
= 51000 mL = 18000 mL + 250 mL
= 18250 mL
Example 3: Convert 17650 mL into L and mL.
Solution: 17650 mL = (17000 + 650) mL = 17000 mL + 650 mL
1
= (17000 ÷ 1000) L + 650 mL 1mL = 1000 L
= 17 L + 650 mL = 17 L 650 mL
Exercise 7.3
1. Fill in the blanks.
(a) 450 mL = 500 mL – ______ mL
(b) 150 mL = 200 mL – ______ mL
(c) 600 mL = 500 mL + _____ mL
(d) 800 mL = 500 mL + _____ mL
(e) 11600 mL = 11 L + _____________ mL + 100 mL
2. 100 mL measuring container is used to measure the following.
(a) 200 mL of oil (b) 1 L of milk (c) 500 mL of oil (d) 2 L of water
State how many times one has to measure 100 mL container to measure the given quantities
completely.
3. Change the following in mL.
(a) 3 L (b) 5 L (c) 35 L 315 mL (d) 25 L 250 mL
(e) 78 L 295 mL (f) 65 L 475 mL (g) 29 L 255 mL (h) 39 L 350 mL
4. Change the following in L and mL.
(a) 5650 mL (b) 2995 mL (c) 3584 mL (d) 4519 mL
(e) 1760 mL (f) 7500 mL (g) 26933 mL (h) 35446 mL
Addition and Subtraction of the Units of Measurement
Addition and subtraction of the units of measurement can be carried out just like the addition
and subtraction of ordinary numbers. Just write the quantities having same units in one column
and add or subtract. Regroup whenever needed.
