          4. Find the difference of the following measurements.

                (a) 13 L 300 mL and 6 L 275 mL (b) 50 L 195 mL and 18 L 50 mL
                (c) 27 kg 185 g and 14 kg 540 g (d) 32 kg 200 g and 7 kg 50 g
                (e) 20 km 235 m and 9 km 40 m (f) 35 m 60 cm and 13 m 23 cm

Multiplication of the Units of Measurement
To multiply the length, weight and capacity we follow the same rules as done for ordinary
numbers and write the product in required units.

              Let’s Attempt

        Example 1: Multiply 7 m 35 cm by 4. Example 2: Multiply 13 kg 150 g by 7.

Solution: m cm Solution: kg g
                                  1 2 2 1 3
                                  7 3 5 1 3 1 5 0
                           × 4 × 7
                              2 9 4 0
                                                                                    9 2 0 5 0

        Thus, 7 m 35 cm × 4 = 29 m 40 cm Thus, 13 kg 150 g × 7 = 92 kg 050 g
        So, product is 29 m 40 cm.
                                                              So, product is 92 kg 050 g.

                                                    Exercise 7.5

        Multiply the following.
              (a) 4 m 75 cm by 5 (b) 5 m 75 cm by 6

              (c) 17 cm 5 mm by 5 (d) 13 m 95 cm by 6
              (e) 13 m 35 cm by 5 (f) 13 kg 235 g by 3
              (g) 16 L 350 mL by 6 (h) 15 L 250 mL by 3

Division of the Units of Measurement

To divide the length, weight and capacity first convert the quantity into smaller units and then
we follow the same rules as done for ordinary numbers.

              Let’s Attempt
                                                                                       1 5 5
                                                                                       6
        Example 1: Divide 6 m 20 cm by 4. 4 –4 2 0
        Solution: 6 m 20 cm = 6 × 100 cm + 20 cm 2 2
                                       = 620 cm –2 0

                          620 cm ÷ 4 = 155 cm 2 0
                          Thus, 6 m 20 cm ÷ 4 = 1 m 55 cm –2 0
                                                                                               0
