                   Boot-Up

Lalit measures the thickness of his book with a scale. The thickness of his book is 2.5 cm.

The distance between Lalit’s house and Anil’s house is 2 km.
Why are the thickness in cm and distance between 2 houses in kilometres are measured?
Choose the option that shows the appropriate measure.

             (a) Weight of a (i) (400 g/400 kg)

             (b) Capacity of a (ii) (5 mL/5 L)

             (c) Length of a (iii) (10 m/10 cm)

             (d) Length of a (iv) (3 cm/3 m)

        Measurement

To measure something like a length, mass or capacity, we compare it with a fixed measure of
the same thing. That fixed measure is called a unit.

        Units of Length

Length of an object tells us how long an object is. Length is measured in metre (m). We also
measure distance in kilometres and in other higher units. Let us learn some other units for
        measuring lengths.
