We have learned how to use Selection tools to select an image or part of an image, Drawing tools to
create different kinds of shapes, Crop tool to remove unwanted parts of an image, and Painting tools to
paint strokes and fill areas with colours in Photoshop 2022. Now let us learn about Retouching tools that
can be used to repair an image, apply repeated patterns, or replace colours in an image. We will also
learn about two features of Photoshop – Layers and Filters. Layers help us organise our work in a better
way, while Filters enable us to enhance the look of an image.
          RETOUCHING TOOLS
Retouching tools are used to enhance the quality or overall appearance of the images. Some Retouching
tools in Photoshop 2022 are Spot Healing Brush tool, Healing Brush tool, Clone Stamp tool, Pattern
Stamp tool, Eraser tool, Blur tool, Sharpen tool, Smudge tool, Dodge tool, and Burn tool. Now, let us
learn how to use these tools.

          Spot Healing Brush Tool
The Spot Healing Brush tool removes blemishes and other imperfections in the image. It paints with
sampled pixels from a part of the image or a pattern and applies the texture, lighting, transparency, and
shading of the sampled pixels to the pixels being healed.

To use the Spot Healing Brush Tool:
            1. Open a saved image.
            2. In the Tools panel, select the Spot Healing Brush tool.
            3. In the Options bar, do the following:

                                3.1 3.2 3.3
3.1 Click the down arrow next to Brush and specify a size for the brush.
                3.2 Choose a Type option:
                      • Proximity Match : Uses pixels around the edge of the selection to find an area to use as a
                        patch.
                      • Create Texture : Uses pixels in the selection to create a texture.
                      • Content-Aware : Compares nearby image content to seamlessly fill the selection.
3.3 Select Sample All Layers to sample data from all visible layers. Deselect this option to sample
data only from the active layer.
