REQUIREMENTS FOR INTERNET CONNECTION
The basic requirements to connect to the Internet are:
1. A computer.
2. An Internet Service Provider (ISP).
3. A modem.
4. A telephone line or cable connection.
5. A Web browser.
Internet Service Provider (ISP)
An Internet Service Provider (ISP) is a company that provides an Internet connection
to its customers. It lays down the cables necessary and provides the hardware devices
needed to connect to the Internet.
Modem
A Modem (Modulator-DEModulator) is a device that enables a
computer to connect to the Internet and communicate with other
computers. A modem can be internal, fixed inside the computer, or
external.
Telephone Line or Cable Connection
A telephone line or a cable connection is required to provide a connection medium to the
Internet. The transfer of information takes place through the telephone line or the cable.
TYPES OF INTERNET CONNECTIONS
Internet connections can be of different types, depending
on the type of connection and speed of the network. Some
common types of Internet connections are:
1. Dial-up Connection
A Dial-up connection uses a standard telephone
line and a modem to connect to the Internet. You
need to enter your username and password each
time you need to connect to the Internet.
2. Broadband Connection
A Broadband connection is a high-speed Internet
connection through a device called broadband
modem. You do not need to enter the username
and password each time you connect to the
Internet.
