approach which includes—preservation, maintenance, sustainable utilisation, restoration and enhancement of
natural resources. Thus, the aim of conservation is two fold:
to preserve the natural resources and the quality of environment and
to ensure continuous yield of resources by establishing a balanced cycle of harvest and renewal.
Let’s discuss the methods and practices of conservation one by one.
Conservation of Water
Water is essential for life on earth. The following are some ways in which we can conserve water:
People should use minimum water for daily needs, such as washing and cleaning.
Effi cient use of water in agriculture.
Mandatory making miniature check dams, grass root irrigation projects, rain water harvesting projects, etc.
Encroachments on wetlands and water-bodies should be
penalized.
Desalination of marine water.
Forest conservation because the root structure acts as natural
sponges, soaking up water and releasing it slowly through
the year.
Recycling of industrial water.
Waste water treatment to avoid water pollution and save
aquatic and human life.
The government should levy taxes on sand mining.
Conservation of Wildlife
Wildlife is one of the most gracious gifts of nature which is rich in its variety and colours. The following are a
few ways is which we can conserve wildlife:
Donate to wildlife charities.
Stop wildlife related tourism and hunting.
Establishment of national parks, wildlife reserves, sanctuaries, zoological gardens, etc.
Educate people about wildlife safety.
Use social media to spread awareness about wildlife.
Stern punishment for poachers.
Conservation of Aquatic Life
Aquatic ecosystems contain a wide variety of plant and animal species that depend on one another for survival.
The following are a few ways in which we can conserve aquatic life:
Stop water pollution.
Relocate the industries, chemical plants and thermal power plants away from the water resources.
Impose fi shing regulations to protect water plants, animals and ecosystem.
Ban use of plastic products.
Increasing public awareness is one of the most important ways to conserve aquatic biodiversity.
Watershed management is an important approach towards aquatic diversity conservation.
Plantation of trees near water bodies prevent soil erosion and subsequently reduce the problem of siltation
in water bodies, resulting in better chances of survival for aquatic organisms.
