Demonstrate the Knowledge of the Factors Infl uencing Natural
Resource Conservation
People live in places like villages, towns and cities of different states and countries thus, forming a society.
The society interacts with the environment in different forms and changes it due to the unavoidable pressure
put on the environment by the social requirements. This affects the ecological balance in the environment.
People utilize the resources, pollute them with wastes and forget to replenish the lost vigour of the
components of the environment.
Environment
Environment refers to the places, people, things and nature that surround
us. It is our basic life support system. The environment around us affects
all aspects of our life in the same way as all our daily activities affect the
environment.
Environment refers to the sum (total) of conditions that surround us at
a given point in time and space. Our surroundings include two main
components:
Abiotic or the non-living aspects of Earth like land, air, soil and water.
Biotic or living organisms like humans, animals and plants.
Thus, we can say that the environment is equated with nature in which physical or abiotic components of the
earth support and affect life in the biosphere. The environment creates favourable conditions for the existence
and development of living organisms. Our environment provides the platform for the interaction between biotic
and abiotic factors. The biotic factors depend upon the abiotic factors to fulfi l their requirements to grow and
survive.
All living organisms are constantly interacting with the environment in order to fulfi l their needs. These needs
include the basic essentials like oxygen, food and shelter in addition to the social needs like entertainment,
medicine, etc. These things that living things require for their survival and comfort are known as resources.
The environment can further be categorised into two types - Natural Environment and Human-made
Environment.
The Natural Environment includes all living and non-living things ENVIRONMENT
occurring naturally on Earth. For example, plants, animals, birds,
insects, land, mountains, water bodies, air, sun, rain, minerals, etc.
The Human-made Environment includes human activities and their Natural Human-made
interaction with the abiotic components. It comprises the structures mountains roads
made by humans such as houses, buildings, parks, bridges, roads, animals cars
markets, factories, dams, vehicles, etc. In addition to these, the trees books
human-made environment also includes all the social institutions and rivers clothes
organisations we see in our society.
