Conservation of Forest
A forest is a community of trees, shrubs, herbs associated plants and
organisms that cover a considerable area. Forests serve as home to
many organisms that live on land. Forests help ecosystem in many
ways like wind barriers, air fi ltration, shade, soil erosion control, etc.
The following are a few ways in which we can conserve forests:
Stop deforestation.
Regulated and planned cutting of trees.
Control over forest fi re.
Check on forest clearance for agriculture and human habitation and settlement.
Develop green belt around cities.
Check the mining activities in forest area.
Protection of existing forests.
Conservation of threatened species of trees.
Conservation of Fossil Fuels and Natural Gases
Fossil fuels take millions of years to form. They are the product of fossilized remains of dead plants and animals
that have been exposed to the heat and pressure deep within the earth’s crust. The following are a few ways in
which we can conserve fossil fuels and natural gases:
Use renewable energy resources like wind, solar, water/hydro, geothermal
and electrochemical energy instead of fossil fuels and natural gasses.
Use more solar panels and make use of the renewable solar energy from the
sun.
Alternative sources of energy should be used in all walks of life.
Reduce the use of fuel-consuming vehicles such as cars, bikes and go green
with bicycles and walking which are good for health and the environment.
Wind Turbines are best for using wind energy to generate electricity.
Use traditional ‘Gobar Gas’ for producing fl ammable gases for domestic purposes. It is a renewable energy
and can reduce LPG consumption.
Do not use plastic bags and avoid plastic packaging because it is made out of fossil fuels.
Reduce: Buy only the essential things and reduce the consumption of natural resources. This is the best
way to conserve these resources. This way, we can reduce the amount of waste in the environment.
Recycle: Process old items and create something new. We can recycle some of the things that we use every
day like paper bags, soda cans, milk cartons, plastic bottles, newspapers, cardboard, sheets of paper,
magazines, etc.
Re-use: Use the same object over and over again before recycling, composting or throwing it away. Reusing
things is a great way to extend the life of things which in turn saves valuable natural resources.
Tips to Reuse, Reduce, and Recycle
Write on both sides of the paper.
Drink from glass or reusable stainless steel cup instead of paper, plastic or
thermocol products.
Use cloth towels and napkins instead of paper towels and napkins.
