is known as receiver, and the response to the message is known as feedback. Since the feedback requires another
message to be communicated by the sender to the receiver. So, communication process become a circular process.
Any communication can be called effective communication if the receiver has completely understood what the
sender wants to convey. Here are some basic rules that we must follow for communication to be successful.
v We should seek first to understand the other person, then diagnose and prescribe.

v The most effective communication is the face-to-face communication as it gives better results.
v Communication becomes complex as the number of people interacting increases.
v In a group, we have to manage several aspects of communication in order to be effective.
v Communication across cultures, genders, and borders differs and may not be understood as it is intended
            to be.
v Feedback is the key to effective communication.

        Principles of Communication
To be able to communicate our ideas and thoughts effectively, here are the principles of effective communication:

        Principle of Clarity

The message must be as clear as possible. No ambiguity should be there about its content and intent. The message
can be conveyed properly only if it has been clearly formulated in the mind of the sender.

        Principle of Objective

The sender must know clearly the purpose of communication before actually transmitting the message. If the
purpose of communication is clear, it will help in the choice of mode of communication.

        Principle of Understanding

The understanding of the message is the main aim of any communication. The communication must create
proper understanding in the mind of the receiver. The sender should picturise the situation and determine the
        way communication would go.

        Principle of Consistency
The message to be communicated should be consistent with plans, policies, programmes, and goals already
attained. The message should not be conflicting with earlier communications. It should not create confusion and
        chaos.

        Principle of Completeness

The message to be communicated must be adequate and complete, otherwise it will be misunderstood by the
receiver. Inadequate communication delays action and affects the efficiency of the people in communication.

        Principle of Feedback

Since the receiver has to accept and carry out the instructions, his reactions must be known to the sender of
message. The sender must consider the suggestions and criticism of the receiver. If feedback principle is given a
back seat, then it defeats the purpose of communication.

        Principle of Time

Information should be communicated at the right time. The sender must consider the timing of communication
so that the desired response is created in the minds of the receiver and communication is effective.

                                                                                                             15
