The various tools on the Image toolbar are:
Filter
With the Filter tool, you can open the Image Filter toolbar. Writer offers eleven filter effects. A filter works on the
current view of an object and they can be combined. Filters always apply to the entire graphic – it is not possible
to use filters to edit only a part of the object.
Icon Name Effect
Invert Inverts the colour values of a colour image or the brightness
values of a grayscale image.
Smooth Softens the contrast of an image.
Sharpen Increases the contrast of an image.
Remove noise Removes single pixels from an image.
Solarisation Mimics the effects of too much light in a picture. A further dialog
box opens to adjust the parameters.
Aging Simulates the effects of time on a picture. Can be applied several
times. A further dialog box opens to adjust the aging level.
Posterise Makes a picture appear like a painting by reducing the number of
colours used.
Pop Art Modifies the picture dramatically.
Charcoal Sketch Displays the image as a charcoal sketch.
Relief Dispalys a dialog box to adjust the light source that will create the
shadow and, hence, the relief effect.
Mosaic Joins groups of pixels into a single area of one colour.

Image Mode
It is used to change colour images to grayscale by selecting the image and then selecting Grayscale from the
Graphics mode list.
The different Image modes are:
v Default: no changes to the graphic object.
v Grayscale: the image is converted to scales of gray.
v Black/White: each pixel of the image is converted to black or white depending on the brightness value.
v Watermark: adjusts the brightness of the image making it suitable to be used as a watermark.
Flip Vertically or Horizontally
These tools are is used to flip an image vertically or horizontally. Select the image, and then click
the relevant icon.
