In the above sentences, all the highlighted words tell us how, where and when the
actions take place. They are called adverbs.
Adverbs of Manner
An adverb of manner tells how or in what manner an action takes place.
Read the following sentences.
Nandita danced gracefully. (danced how? – gracefully)

He speaks loudly. (speaks how? – loudly)
O
Sometimes, an adverb of manner is placed before a verb.
Read the following sentences.
He was immediately sent to the hospital.

She silently entered the room.
O
Some other adverbs of manner are faithfully, happily, luckily, weekly, etc.
Adverbs of Place
An adverb of place tells where or at what place an action takes place.
Read the following sentences.
God is everywhere. (is where? — everywhere)

He looked around. (looked where? — around)
O
Come here. (The word here shows towards the speaker.)
O
Put it there. (The word there shows far away from the speaker.)
O
Some other adverbs of place are in, out, up, down, inside, outside, away, nearby,
around, etc.
Adverbs of Time
An adverb of time tells when an action takes place. Adverbs
Read the following sentences.
Yesterday we went for a picnic. (went when? – yesterday)

I’ll complete my project tomorrow. (complete when? – tomorrow)
O
Some other adverbs of time are today, tonight, soon, now, then, last year, etc.
