Can
Can is used to express ability. For example:
She can drive this car. I can read and write German.

When we use can in a negative sentence, can becomes cannot and shows impossibility.
For example:
They cannot be your friends. The man cannot run fast.

Can is used to express permission in a direct way. It is less formal. For example:
Can I go out? No, you cannot go.
