Indefi nite Articles
A and an are indefi nite ar� cles because they do not show any specifi c noun. We use a
or an before common nouns.
A is used before a singular noun that begins with a consonant sound.

He is a handsome boy.
An is used before a singular noun that begins with a vowel sound.
