In each of the sentences, the preposition is printed in colour. It governs the relation

          of the noun that follows it with another noun that precedes it.


          Prepositions of Time


          At

          We use at in the following expressions.

            1.  For the time of the day: at 7 o’clock, at noon, at mid-night, at sunset

            2.  Indefinite period: at dawn, at night

            3.  Meal time: at lunch, at dinner

            4.  Festivals: at Christmas, at Easter, at Dussehra

            5.  Group activities and shop/work place: at the party, at the meeting, at the store
                   The meeting is at 10 o’clock.

                   She will play the piano at dinner.
                O

          On

          We use on in the following expressions.

            1.  For days and dates: on Monday, on 26 January, on Friday

            2.  Festival + day: on Christmas Day

            3.  Day + part of the day: on Monday morning, on Saturday night

                   My uncle arrived on Thursday night.

                   Our annual fest took place on 21st December.

          In

          We use in in the following expressions.


          For longer periods like

            1.  Months: in July, in August
            2.  Years: in 1947, in 2024

            3.  Seasons: in spring, in winter

            4.  Parts of the day: in the evening, in the morning

                   Sir Edmund Hillary climbed Mount Everest in 1953.
