          Preposition of Place


          At

          We use at for a place when we see it as a point.

             Write your name at the top of the page.  O Our train stopped at New Delhi.

          At is used with villages and small towns.

             She lives at Meerut.

              At is used with a particular house, place or residence:

             I live at D-39, Jagrati Vihar, Meerut.               She is putting up at Anand Vihar.

          In

          We use in when we talk about a place as an area.

             He lives in Agra.                                    Keep this purse in your pocket.

             He lives in Deep Nagar.

          Into, Onto

          Both these prepositions show motion.

             Pour tea into the cup.                               The bird flew onto the rooftop.

          Of, Off, From


          Of is used to show possession.

             The legs of the table are round.                     She died of fever.

          Off is used to mean away/down.

             The thief ran off in darkness.                       The child fell off the roof.

          From is also used to show separation.

             He returned from Japan on Sunday.                    All water comes from rain.

          For and since are used before periods of time and points of time respectively.
