                                        A C T I V I T Y                   T I M E


            Objective: To develop the concept of division as repeated subtraction.


            Materials Required: 50 marbles/pebbles/coins for each student, bowls.

            Procedure:

            1.   The teacher will divide the class into pairs and write a division problem on the

                 board, say 15 ÷ 5.

            2.  All the pairs will be asked to take out 15 marbles and put into a bowl.


            3.   Each pair will take 5 marbles each time out of 15 marbles until no marble is left  and
                 put them into the other bowl.


            4.  The students will write in their notebook the subtraction of 5 from 15 as:

                 15 – 5 = 10   10 – 5 = 5                     5 – 5 = 0


            5.   The students will also note down the number of times 5 marbles are taken out from
                 15 marbles.
