11 Weight

● The weight of an object tells us “how heavy an object is".
● The tools used to measure weight are called weighing balance or weighing machine.
● The standard unit of weight is kilogram and it is denoted as ‘kg’.

● The smaller unit of weight is gram and it is denoted as 'g'.
In day-to-day life, weight is used to measure how much heavy the object is. Have you
measured your weight? The weight of any object can be measured with the help of a
balance and some known weights.
Units of Weight
1. The standard unit of weight is kilogram denoted as ‘kg’. For example, we measure
the weight of bag of rice in ‘kg’. We also measure our own weight in 'kg'.
2. Smaller unit of weight is gram denoted as ‘g’. For example, you measure the weight
of few apples, spices, etc. in grams.
3. The smallest unit of weight is milligram denoted as ‘mg’. The weight of very small
quantities like gold, medicines, etc. are measured in milligram.
