Addition and Subtraction of Weights
● To add or subtract the weights with same units, we simply add or subtract the

numbers and write the unit. For example,
1
4 6 kg 2 0 3 kg 8 2 5 g
+ 7 2 kg + 9 4 kg + 3 4 7 g
1 1 8 kg 2 9 7 kg 1 1 7 2 g
1 16 15 3 12 10
8 3 kg 2 7 5 kg 4 3 0 g
– 4 1 kg – 1 8 7 kg – 1 9 4 g
4 2 kg 8 8 kg 2 3 6 g
● To add or subtract the weights with kg and g we arrange them in columns of kg and
g and do the operation separately. For example,
Add 78 kg 550 g and 39 kg 220 g Subtract 35 kg 275 g from 50 kg 394 g.
kg g kg g
1 4 10 8 14
7 8 5 5 0 5 0 3 9 4
+ 3 9 2 2 0 – 3 5 2 7 5
1 1 7 7 7 0 1 5 1 1 9
78 kg 550 g + 39 kg 220 g = 117 kg 770 g 50 kg 394 g – 35 kg 275 g = 15 kg 119 g
