Weight                                                                                                  141

        In the most common balance, the weighing bars of the following denominations are
        used.

               50 kg          20 kg        10 kg        5 kg       2 kg      1 kg     500 g   200 g   100 g   50 g

        These days electronic weighing machines are used in most of the places like grocery

        stores, malls, etc.

                                               1 kilogram = 1000 grams

        ● To convert the given weight in kilogram to gram, multiply the number of kilograms
             by 1000.

              For example,                8 kg  = 8 × 1000 = 8000 g; 15 kg = 15 × 1000 = 15000 g

        ● To convert kilogram and gram into gram, we multiply the number of kilogram by
             1000 and then add it to the number of grams.

             For example, 6 kg 70 g  = (6 × 1000) g + 70 g = 6000 g + 70 g = 6070 g.

        ● To convert grams into kilograms and grams, separate the thousands and write them
             as kg.

              7090 g = (7000 + 90) g = 7 kg + 90 g = 7 kg 90 g

              4789 g = 4000 g + 789 g = 4 kg + 789 g = 4 kg 789 g                      (1000 g = 1 kg)

              8079 = 8000 g + 79 g = 8 kg + 79 g = 8 kg 79 g.

                                                     Exercise 11A
