5. The sum of two numbers is 8342. If one of the numbers is 6985, what is the other
number?
6. During a birthday party, Mr. Kaushik ordered 3450 cups
of ice-cream. At the end of the party, 279 cups were left.
How many cups of ice-cream were used?
7. There were 9000 people watching a match in a stadium. Due to rain, 2479 people left
the stadium. How many people watched the match in the stadium till end?
8. 2872 students study at school ‘A’ and 1584 at school ‘B’. How many more students
study at school ‘A’?
Addition and Subtraction Together
When addition and subtraction are given together, first we always add and then subtract.
Let’s Attempt
Example 1: Solve: 2375 + 1565 – 2860.
Solution: Step 1: Add the number Step 2: Subtract 2860 from 3940.
2375 and 1565.

Thus, 2375 + 1565 – 2860 = 1080
Example 2: 8925 persons visited an exhibition on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. If 2136
persons visited the exhibition on Sunday and 3869 persons on Monday,
then how many persons visited the exhibition on Tuesday?
Solution: Number of persons who visited the exhibition on Sunday and Monday
= 2136 + 3869 = 6005
