          2. Find the sum of the given numbers.

                (a)  988, 1232 and 4205                      (b)  4744, 1831 and 2722

                (c)  1763, 2182 and 1563                     (d)  6241, 2222 and 1038


        Properties of Addition

            �   Numbers can be added in any order, their sum remains the same.

               For example,          2315 + 1104 = 3419       The sum is the same.

                                     1104 + 2315 = 3419

            �   When we add 0 (zero) to a number or a number to 0 (zero), result is the number
               itself.

               For example,          1315 + 0 = 1315;             0 + 2104 = 2104

            �   When one is added to a number. The sum is the successor of the given number.

               For example,          4056 + 1 = 4057,             2059 + 1 = 2060

            �   The sum of two or more numbers is always greater than the numbers being added
               except when one of the number is zero.

               For example,          2137 + 1022 = 3159,          Here 3159 > 2137, 3159 > 1022

        Example 1:   Aman distributed 1063 toffees among his friends on his birthday. Rohan
                         distributed 2375 toffees on his birthday. How many toffees were distributed

        Solution:        Toffees distributed by Aman   = 1063                                            1

                         Toffees distributed by Rohan  = 2375                                        1 0 6 3
                         Total number of toffees               = 1063 + 2375 = 3438              + 2 3 7 5
                                                                                                     3 4 3 8
                         Thus, 3438 toffees are distributed in all.
