Addition with Regrouping
As sum of the digits at ones, tens or hundreds columns exceeds 9, we must regroup ones

into tens, tens into hundreds and hundreds into thousands.
Let us add 5268 and 2785.

Arrange the given numbers in columns and then follow these steps:
Step 1: Add the ones. Th H T O
8 ones + 5 ones = 13 ones 1

13 ones = 10 ones + 3 ones = 1 ten + 3 ones 5 2 6 8

Write 3 under the ones column and carry 1 ten to + 2 7 8 5

Step 2: Add the tens. Th H T O

6 tens + 8 tens + 1 ten (carried over) = 15 tens 1 1
15 tens = 10 tens + 5 tens = 1 hundred + 5 tens 5 2 6 8

Write 5 under tens column and carry 1 hundred + 2 7 8 5

Step 3: Add the hundreds.

2 hundreds + 7 hundreds + 1 hundred (carried over) Th H T O

Step 4: Add the thousands.
