Example 1: Write the following as decimals.
(a) 3 (b) 4 (c) 53 (d) 281 (e) 72
10 100 100 1000 1000
Solution: (a) 3 = 0.3 (b) 4 = 0.04 (c) 53 = 0.53
10 100 100
(d) 281 = 0.281 (e) 72 = 0.072
1000 1000
Example 2: Write the following as fractions.
(a) 0.7 (b) 2.3 (c) 0.005 (d) 4.12
(e) 6.235 (f) 10.015 (g) 0.07 (h) 192.314
Solution: (a) 0.7 = 7 (b) 2.3 = 23 (c) 0.005 = 5
10 10 1000
(d) 4.12 = 412 (e) 6.235 = 6235 (f) 10.015 = 10015
100 1000 1000
(g) 0.07 = 7 (h) 192.314 = 192314
100 1000
Example 3: Write the number names of the following decimals.
(a) 0.03 (b) 21.53 (c) 317.025 (d) 6.009
Solution: (a) zero point zero three (b) twenty-one point five three
