Decimals 85

        Writing Thousandth as Decimal
Let us take a cube of 1000 equal units.

If we colour one cube out of 1000, we get 1 or
        one-thousandth. 1000

We write it in decimal form as ‘0.001’.
We read it as ‘zero point zero zero one’.

Similarly, when we colour thirteen cubes out of 1000,

        we get 13 .
                 1000
We write it in decimal form as ‘0.013’.

We read it as ‘zero point zero one three’.

                                                    Exercise 6.1

          1. Write the shaded and unshaded parts as common fractions and decimal fractions. One has
              been done for you.
                                                                Shaded parts Unshaded parts

               (a) 4 = 0.4 6 = 0.6
                                                                    10 10
